Lyra Classes

Lyra is a circular steel ring that resembles a hula hoop which is suspended in the air by a cable or span set attached to the ceiling.

You’ll find strength and balance in this apparatus as you work towards aerial flight!

Intro to Lyra Series

We typically limit classes to two people per aerial apparatus. We are serious about safety and our rigging is state of the art, with each rig point able to hold over 1 ton of weight! Because of this, there are no weight limits for any of our classes.

We offer many modifications to give everyone the opportunity to experience this beautiful apparatus. If you’ve never taken Lyra before, we recommend starting with our Intro to Lyra Series, a 6 week course that introduces fundamental concepts and tricks, designed for complete beginners. We also just introduced Intro to Lyra for Plus Size Dancers, a series designed and taught by a plus size aerialist for plus size bodies.

Lyra 1 Series

Open Lyra

  • This is a class for those who have no experience with Lyra, or have had only a few weeks or months of classes. We focus on familiarizing you with the lyra, and teach basic poses, mounts, and transitions.

You’ll learn about the body mechanics by which you get up and stay up in the air: hollow body engagement, proper shoulder engagement, and body awareness.

It’s OK if you can’t pull your body weight up yet! We work on conditioning that meets you where you are and helps you get there, and also in reduce new moves with a low-hung lyra so you can focus on the mechanics of specific poses and balances.

Most of all, we want you to have fun, feel accomplished, and enjoy being in a magical hoop up in the air! Take your time in this level and learn at yo!r own pace!

Attire: please wear leggings and something to cover your midriff and arm pits.

  • This is not a beginner class!

This intermediate level class is for those who are more comfortable with the lyra, can mount and dismount comfortably on their own, and have basic upright posts they can transition easily to and from. Discover interesting shapes, poses, and combine them your way as you get more comfortable in the hoop!
