If given a chance, dance

A little bit about me: Molly

I wanted to share my story with all of you.  To start off I have been pole dancing since 2018 and instructing since 2021.  I began this hobby after getting in a nasty wreck that left me with broken bones and doctors doubting my future physical ability.  Guess what?! Pole actually rehabilitated me! I became stronger than I ever was.

This past year I have found out pole is truly saving my life. In January of 2026 I found out I have a neurodegenerative disorder called Spinocerebellar ataxia.  Meaning my future consists of being wheel chair bound along with many other issues from speech to swallowing and so on.

Here is some specific details about Spinocerebellar ataxia;

It is a rare genetic degenerative disorder that causes a slow deterioration of the cerebellum, brain stem to the spinal cord.  Can also deteriorate other parts of the brain.  This leads to many issues including, speech, balance, involuntary movements, coordination, and muscle control.

My specialists at this time call me a walking miracle. My progression has been very slow.  The doctors have told me my deterioration is way slower than any of the patients they have seen t.  I have pole and dance to thank for that.  I have been told that I am paving the way for the future patients of this degenerative disorder.  Because of pole I am physically and mentally doing better than 98% of those my age with this disorder

Dance is the number one recommendation for those with neurodegenerative disorders because it improves balance, boosts brain plasticity, whole brain connection, brain cell growth, mobility, strength, and so much more.

My advice to not only those with degenerative disorders but everyone...Never stop moving and if you are given a chance to dance...I say dance
